White Island tour operators facing two investigations into the death of 16 tourists could seek assistance from a $5 million Government fund to support businesses.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on Monday said ministers had decided to create a $5 million fund for businesses in Whakatane, affected by a fatal eruption the volcanic island, and Westland, affected by storm damaged roads.
Speaking at her weekly post-Cabinet press conference, Ardern said a WorkSafe investigation into the White Island deaths could take up to a year.
